Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney Receives Leadership Excellence Award

Bismarck, N.D. — September 22, 2025 — Fargo Mayor Dr. Timothy Mahoney has been honored with the 2025 Leadership Excellence Award by the North Dakota League of Cities (NDLC) at its Annual Conference in Bismarck.
Mahoney, who has served more than 20 years in elected office and over a decade as mayor, is recognized for his accessibility, compassion, and steady leadership through challenges ranging from historic floods to the COVID-19 pandemic. He has championed transparency, regional collaboration, and long-term resilience for Fargo and the surrounding metro area.
Key achievements under his leadership include the Fargo-Moorhead Flood Diversion Project, the Red River Valley Water Supply Project, and downtown revitalization efforts that have strengthened the city’s economy and quality of life.
A lifelong Fargo resident, Mahoney balances his duties as mayor with his medical practice while remaining devoted to his family, including seven grandchildren.
“Tim Mahoney leads with vision and compassion—guiding Fargo through challenges while never losing sight of the people he serves. His impact will shape the city and region for generations,” said Matt Gardner, Executive Director of the North Dakota League of Cities.
The award was presented during the NDLC’s 2025 Annual Conference, held September 17–19 at the Bismarck Event Center.
