David Lakefield joined the City of Minot in April of 2017 as the Finance Director. He is a life-long resident of northwest North Dakota and is a Certified Public Accountant with a bachelor’s degree from Minot State University and a Masters from the University of Mary. Prior to his hire as the City’s Finance Director, Lakefield owned and operated his own business, Liberty Tax Service, since 2003. He is currently on his second stint with the City of Minot. He spent nine years protecting and serving the community with the Minot Police Department as a Patrol officer, Narcotics investigator and was a member of the City of Minot SWAT team. Lakefield also spent eight years as an educator in accounting and finance at Minot State University, the University of Mary, and Central Michigan University.

Lakefield has been married to his wife, Pennie, for 29 years. Together they have two sons, Dillon age 26 and Dustin age 24 who also call Minot home. He has been involved with several organizations including: South Prairie School Board, GEM Federal Credit Union Board of Directors, District Committee Member for Tomahawk District of Boy Scouts of America, and Assistant Scout Master of Troop 416. When not working, Lakefield enjoys spending time at Lake Metigoshe and taking motorcycle trips throughout the country. David represents cities over 2,500 in the north central region.
